DGFT starts De-Activation of IECs not updated after 01.01.2014
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a trade notice that all Importer-Exporter Codes (IECs) that have not been updated since January 1, 2014 will be deactivated as of December 6, 2021.
“Reference is made to Notification No. 58/2015-2020 dated February 12, 2021, 11/2015-2020 dated July 01, 2021, 16/2015-2020 dated August 09, 2021, and Trade Notice 18/2021-2022 dated September 20, 2021, whereby it was mandated by DGFT to all IEC holders to ensure that details in their IEC are updated electronically every year during the April-June period” (for which no user charges will be borne by the IEC holder). Based on representations received from IEC holders who had not updated their IECs, the period for updating was extended to July 31, 2021, and then to August 31, 2021, according to the trade notice.
In addition to the aforementioned notification, and in accordance with paragraph 2.05(e) of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), IECs that have not yet been updated will be deactivated. This deactivation process is being carried out in stages.
All IECs that have not been updated after January 1, 2014 will be decommissioned as of December 6, 2021. The list of such IECs may be found at https://www.dgft.gov.in/CP/?opt=LIEC. The relevant IEC holders are given one last chance to update their IECs during this interim period until December 5, 2021, after which the given IECs would be deactivated beginning December 6, 2021. Any IEC for which an online updation application has been received but is awaiting clearance from the DGFT RA will be excluded from the deactivation list. It should also be noted that every IEC that has been deactivated has the option of being automatically reactivated without the need for any manual intervention or trips to the DGFT RA. To reactivate an IEC beyond December 6, 2021, the IEC holder must go to the DGFT website and update their IEC online. After a successful update, the supplied IEC is reactivated and the updated status is reported to the Customs system.
