Reliance Communications Loan Case: CBI Chargesheets Amitabh Jhunjhunwala Over Alleged Conspiracy Behind Rs 1,200 Crore SBI Loan:

CBI has filed a second supplementary chargesheet against Reliance ADA Group executive Amitabh Jhunjhunwala in the Rs 971.25 crore SBI loan fraud case.
CBI Files Fresh Chargesheet in RCom Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a second supplementary chargesheet in the Reliance Communications Limited (RCom) case against Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, Group Managing Director of the Reliance ADA Group. The chargesheet was filed on August 21, 2026, before the Special CBI Court in Mumbai.
According to the CBI, Jhunjhunwala was allegedly involved in a criminal conspiracy to cheat the State Bank of India (SBI). The investigation found that he played an important role in obtaining a Rs 1,200 crore term loan for Reliance Communications Limited and Reliance Infratel Limited.
The CBI said the two companies failed to repay the loans, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs 971.25 crore to SBI. Jhunjhunwala has been chargesheeted for alleged criminal conspiracy, criminal misappropriation and cheating.
The CBI had registered the case based on a complaint filed by SBI. According to the FIR, the total exposure of Indian public sector banks and financial institutions in the case is around Rs 19,694.33 crore.
The agency had earlier filed its first chargesheet on May 29, 2026, against 16 accused, including Reliance Communications Limited, five senior company executives and 10 bank officials. It later filed another supplementary chargesheet against Netizen Engineering P Limited and its directors Anil Jamna Kalya and Tunu Sahu.
With the latest chargesheet against Jhunjhunwala, the total number of accused charge-sheeted in the case has reached 20. The CBI said its investigation into other accused persons and other aspects of the case is still continuing.
The CBI has also registered eight FIRs involving Reliance Communications, Reliance Home Finance, Reliance Commercial Finance and Reliance Telecom based on complaints from various public sector banks, LIC and EPFO.
So far, the CBI has arrested seven accused persons in cases linked to the Reliance ADA Group. All seven are currently in judicial custody.
The investigation is being monitored by the Supreme Court. The CBI said it remains committed to completing the investigation quickly and comprehensively.
