Government notifies Amended India-Belgium Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation The Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) recently issued a notification (No. 160/2025/F. No. 505/2/1989-FTD-I) on November 10, 2025 regarding the amendment of the Agreement and the Protocol between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium. The Government of India and the Government of Belgium updated their agreement to avoid double taxation and prevent tax evasion on income. The original agreement was signed in Brussels on April 26, 1993, and the amendment (called the Amending Protocol) was signed in New Delhi on March 9, 2017.

This updated agreement will come into effect on June 26, 2025,when both countries completed the necessary legal procedures to make it valid. The Central Government of India through its powers given by sub-section (1) of section 90 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, has directed that all the provisions of this updated agreement will now be implemented in India.
