GST Collections in India Show Steady Growth in FY 2025-26

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections showed steady growth in the financial year 2025-26 compared to 2024-25. According to the data as of March 31, 2026, total GST collections rose across major categories, reflecting improved economic activity and better compliance.

A. Domestic GST Collection

Under domestic GST collections, Central GST (CGST) increased from 38,154 crore in March 2025 to 40,549 crore in March 2026. State GST (SGST) also rose from 49,891 crore to 53,268 crore. Integrated GST (IGST) collections went up from 50,071 crore to 52,385 crore. Overall, gross domestic revenue increased from 1,38,816 crore to 1,46,202 crore, marking a growth of 5.9%. For the full year, domestic GST collections rose from 15,33,805 crore to 16,31,769 crore, an increase of 6.4%.

B. Imports

GST collections from imports also saw notable growth. IGST collections on imports rose from 45,739 crore in March 2025 to 53,861 crore in March 2026, reflecting a strong growth of 17.8%. Overall, gross import revenue increased from 45,739 crore to 53,861 crore, while yearly figures rose from 5,21,710 crore to 5,95,327 crore, showing a growth of 14.1%.

Gross GST Revenue 

Total gross GST revenue (including domestic and imports) stood at 2,00,064 crore in March 2026, up from 1,83,845 in March 2025, reflecting a growth of 8.8%. For the full year, total gross GST revenue increased from 20,55,515 crore to 22,27,096 crore, marking an 8.3% rise.

C. Domestic Refund

Refunds also saw an increase during this period. Domestic refunds rose from 2,620 crore to 3,595 crore in CGST, and from 3,660 crore to 4,643 crore in SGST. IGST domestic refunds increased from 5,049 crore to 6,622 crore. Total domestic refunds went up from 11,329 crore to 14,860 crore, showing a growth of 31.2%. For the full year, refund domestic increased from 1,32,240 crore to 1,63,762 crore, marking a 23.8% rise.

D. Export GST Refund

Export GST refunds declined, with IGST refunds from 8,071 crore to 7,214 crore (a decline of -10.6%), but overall yearly refunds increased from 1,15,979 crore to 1,28,568 crore, a growth of 10.9%.

Total GST Refund 

Total GST refunds (domestic and export combined) increased from 19,400 crore in March 2025 to 22,074 crore in March 2026, showing a growth of 13.8%. On a yearly basis, total refunds rose from 2,48,218 crore to 2,92,330 crore, an increase of 17.8%.

E. Net Revenue Domestic

Net GST revenue after refunds also showed positive growth. Net domestic revenue increased from 1,26,777 crore to 1,31,343 crore, growing by 3.6%, while yearly figures rose from 14,01,565 crore to 14,68,008 crore, marking a 4.7% increase.

F. Net Revenue Customs

Net revenue from imports rose from 37,667 crore to 46,647 crore in March, reflecting a growth of 23.8%, and yearly figures increased from 4,05,731 crore to 4,66,758 crore, showing a 15.0% rise.

Net Revenue

Overall, total net GST revenue increased from 1,64,445 crore in March 2025 to 1,77,990 crore in March 2026, showing a growth of 8.2%. For the full year, net GST revenue rose from 18,07,296 crore to 19,34,766 crore, marking a growth of 7.1%.

Cess

In terms of cess collections, domestic cess decreased from 11,116 crore to 103 crore, and imports also decreased from 1,137 crore to (0). Refunds under cess are (210) crore to (280) crore. Overall, net cess revenue stood at 12,043 crore in March 2025 and (177) crore in March 2026, while yearly figures for March 2025 were 148,699 crore and for March 2026 were 99,039 crore.
