GST Department asked Vodafone Idea to pay GST of Rs.15.19 Crore along with Rs.1.51 Crore Penalty
The GST department in Patna has ordered debt-ridden Vodafone Idea to pay GST of Rs 15.19 crore, plus a penalty of Rs 1.51 crore, for allegedly claiming input tax credit for which it was not qualified in FY20 and FY21, according to a regulatory filing on Wednesday.
Vodafone Idea (VIL) stated that it does not agree with the order and will pursue legal action.
Based on the filing, the Joint Commissioner for CGST and Central Excise in Patna issued an order under the "Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, confirming a demand of Rs.15,19,20,351 along with a penalty of Rs.1,51,92,035 and interest as applicable."
The company on 28th August obtained an order alleging "availing of ineligible input tax credit for FY 2019-20 and 2020-21".
"The foremost financial impact is the amount of tax demand, interest, and penalties levied. The company disagrees with the order and will take appropriate action(s)," the filing stated.
