GST Late Fees: more than Rs 100 Crores collected as late fees from April 19 to April 21

The government has collected more than Rs 100 Crores as late fees of GST Returns from April 19 to April 21.

This was revealed in an RTI filed by Shri Pallav Parashar. RTI application was filed on 05.05.2021 bearing registration to RTI Wing, CCO, CGST & CX, Ranchi Zone, Patna received under Section 6(3) of RTI Act 2005.

The Queries sought were:

  • Late Fee Collected by the Govt. on GSTR 3B and other GST returns for The period starting from 01.07.2017 to 30.04.2021
  • Tax and Penalty collected by the Govt. under Section 16(4) of the CGST Act for the period from 01.07.2017 to 30.04.2021

For the first question, no data was available from Jul 17 to March 19. From April 19 to April 21 the Late Fees of 1,07,02,47,136/ has been collected.

Also, No information was available regarding the 2nd Question.

Please note that the who industry, especially the MSME sector, is praying for GST Amenmsty Scheme. It has been anticipated that in the upcoming GST Council Meeting, this issue will be raised.
