GST Portal Alert: Major Portal Changes Every Taxpayer Must Know
The GST Network (GSTN) has recently introduced some updates to its portal to make tax compliance easier and more transparent for taxpayers. The first update is an advisory regarding interest calculation and collection in GSTR-3B returns, ensuring that taxpayers report correctly with an improved system to reduce confusion and errors. The Second update is a facility that allows taxpayers to opt out of Rule 14A
The portal enhancements also included better validations, clearer reporting fields, and improved user guidance so businesses can file returns more accurately and avoid notices or penalties. The following are the updates:
1. Advisory on Interest Collection and Enhancements in GSTR-3B
With reference to the advisory released in January 2026, the GST Portal clarified that taxpayers will be able to use their CGST or SGST input tax credit (ITC) from the february 2026 to pay IGST liability in any order they choose, but only after completely utilising the available IGST credit.
2. Facility for Withdrawal from Rule 14A
The GST Network (GSTN) has started a new online option on the GST portal. If a taxpayer had earlier chosen to register under Rule 14A, they can now apply to opt out from that option by filing Form GST REG-32 online. However, this facility is only for active taxpayers who are currently under Rule 14A and are eligible as per the GST law.
