ITR Filing 2025: Which Form Should Social Media Influencers Use?
The season for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) is going on. Social media influencers earning high incomes are also eligible to file income tax returns. The income tax department may investigate them if they don't file their ITR and may also suffer with some amount of penalty. According to the official dates, the due date for filing the ITR for the financial year 2024-25 is September 15, 2025. However, taxpayers should be aware of which form to use for ITR filing, exemptions and deductions to claim, and other related details. You should be aware that bloggers, freelancers, and coaches are also eligible to file income tax returns (ITRs).
Taxes Applicable to Influencers
The income earned by influencers from social media platforms and other sources is counted under income from business. Many items of their income also require an audit. Therefore, it becomes necessary for them to file ITR and select the right regime between the old and the new. If the gross annual income of influencers exceeds Rs. 20 lakh, they are asked to pay GST on their income. Every state in India has their own distinct income slab for GST. For instance, in northeastern states, the income limit is Rs. 10 lakh.Tax Deducted at Source (TDS)
If influencers bear non-monetary advantages of more than Rs. 20,000 in a financial year, then they suffer with a liability of 10% TDS.Income Tax Slabs for Influencers
Below are listed the income tax slabs for influencers: Old Tax Regime- Rs 2.5 lakh: Nil
- Over Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh: 5%
- Over Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh: 20%
- Over Rs 10 lakh: 30%
- Upto 2,50,000: Nil
- From 2,50,001 to 5,00,000: 5%
- From 5,00,001 to 7,50,000: 10%
- From 7,50,001 to 10,00,000: 15%
- From 10,00,001 to 12,50,000: 20%
- From 12,50,001 to 15,00,000: 25%
- Above 15,00,000: 30%
ITR Forms Applicable to Influencers
Social media influencers are generally required to use the ITR-3 or ITR-4 form for filing their return.- ITR-3: This form is filed by individuals and HUFs earning income from business or professional profits and gains.
- ITR-4 (Sugam): Social media influencers, if eligible to opt for the presumptive taxation scheme, can file ITR-4.
