UIDAI makes Online Document updation in Aadhaar Free of Cost to benefit millions of Residents
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has decided to allow residents to update their Aadhaar documents online for free. According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, it is a people-centered action that will help millions of inhabitants. The free service will be provided for the next three months, until June 14th of this year.
According to the Ministry, this service is exclusively available on the myAadhaar portal and will continue to cost 50 rupees at physical Aadhaar centres. The UIDAI has been encouraging residents to upload Proof of Identification and Proof of Address documents to revalidate their demographic facts, particularly if their Aadhaar was granted more than ten years ago and was never updated. As per Ministry, this will improve the convenience of living, service delivery, and authentication success rate.
Over the last decade, the Aadhaar number has developed as a universally recognised evidence of identity for Indian residents. Aadhaar-based identification is used for service delivery in around 1200 government projects and programmes conducted by both the Central and State governments.
