The 54th Meeting of the GST Council will be held on 9th September 2024 in New Delhi.

The GST Council, which is made up of finance ministers from the Centre and states, is the top decision-making body for the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which was implemented on July 1, 2017.

The Council said in a post on Twitter, “The 54th Meeting of the GST Council will be held on 9th September 2024 at New Delhi.”

The meeting is scheduled to begin discussions on rate rationalisation, lowering tax slabs, and eliminating duty inversion under GST.

Following the previous Council meeting on June 23, Sitharaman stated that at the next GST Council meeting, the Group of Ministers (GoM) on rate rationalisation, led by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sumant Chaudhary, will present an update on the status of the work and aspects covered by the panel, as well as work pending before the panel.

“There will be a presentation by the GoM regardless of whether the report is draft… and then Council will begin the discussion on rate rationalisation in the next meeting,” said Sitharaman.
