Govt Revises Central Excise Duty Rates on Petroleum Products; Effective June 1, 2026
The Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) has introduced major revisions in the Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) rates for petroleum products, including Petrol, Diesel and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), effective from June 01, 2026.
The Central Government has taken this step in exercise of its powers granted under Section 5A of the Central Excise Act, 1944, (1 of 1944), read with Section 147 of the Finance Act, 2002 (20 of 2002), by making amendments in its earlier notifications (Notification No. 06/2026-Central Excise, dated March 26, 2026, and Notification No. 08/2026-Central Excise, dated March 26, 2026).
In Notification No. 06/2026-Central Excise, dated March 26, 2026, in the table against serial numbers 1 and 2, in column (4), for the entries specified there, “Rs 1.5 per litre” and “Rs 13.5 per litre” have been replaced, respectively. The Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) rate for Petrol has now been revised to Rs 1.5 per litre and for High-Speed Diesel Oil to Rs 13.5 per litre.
In Notification No. 08/2026-Central Excise, dated March 26, 2026, in the table against serial number 1, in column (4), for the entry specified there, the “Rs 9.5 per litre” entry has been replaced. The Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) rate for Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) has now been revised to Rs 9.5 per litre.
