Walking on the path of improvement and development, Bihar has secured a leading position in the GST collection of the year (May, 2025) with a collection amount of Rs. 1871 crore.

Bihar promises tremendous growth with Increase of 23% in GST Collection

Bihar stood at a leading position in the GST collection for the year 2025 by collecting an amount of Rs. 1871 crore (May, 2025). As compared to last year’s collection of Rs. 1521 crore, this year’s collection is 23% higher. Meanwhile, the entire nation could only increase its GST collection by 16% during the same timespan, making it crystal clear that Bihar has surpassed the national average as well.

Yet Falling Behind Neighboring States in Revenue

Regardless of giving a remarkable performance in terms of percentage, Bihar’s neighboring states like West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh are yet ahead in revenue figures. Jharkhand has collected Rs 2907 crore in May 2025, West Bengal Rs 6321 crore, and Uttar Pradesh Rs 9130 crore.

Only 6.5 lakh Traders are Registered Under GST Till Now in Bihar

As of the current data, Bihar has only 6.5 registered traders, with GST rules exempting those with less than Rs. 20 lakh annual turnover. Yet, 2.89 lakh returns were filed on the central server and 3.63 lakh on the state server, showcasing a strong participation.

Enhancement Visible in Annual Figures

Looking at the previous financial year’s GST collection(2023-24) that stood at Rs.27,622 crore, this year’s (2024-25) total GST collection is Rs 29,359.76 crore, six percent increased than last year. These numbers indicate that the revenue system of Bihar is constantly improving.
