GST Breaking: Tax Officers Now Issuing Notices For Suo-moto Cancellation of GST Registration
Notices for suo moto cancellation of GST registration due to Rule 10A non-compliance have now officially started. The Suo moto cancellation of GST registration means cancellation of GST registration under the GST Act by the tax officer on his own motion. However, it is mandatory for the GST officer to provide valid reasons for initiating such suo moto cancellation under section 29(2) of the CGST Act.
Notices For Suo-Moto GST Cancellation
Many taxpayers are now receiving emails regarding the suspension of their GST number (GSTIN) for not updating their bank account details on the GST portal within the required time.
The email also warns that if the bank details are still not updated, this temporary suspension will later become a permanent cancellation of the GSTIN. This means the business will not be allowed to carry on activities under GST.
Businesses are also advised to immediately check whether the bank account information shown on the GST portal is correct and complete. If anything is missing or wrong, they must file a non-core amendment on the GST portal to update the proper bank details.
