A taxpayer recently shared a concerning experience regarding the GST registration process on the social media platform X (previously known as Twitter).

The taxpayer applied for GST registration under Rule 14A. The GSTIN was granted within a few hours of applying. However, within only 20 days, they received a notice stating that their GST registration had been suspended.

The notice mentioned that the registration may be cancelled for the following reasons:

Remarks: The GST department attempted to deliver the welcome kit to the declared principal place of business, but it was not delivered successfully. Because of this, the department has doubts about whether the business actually exists at the declared address.

Therefore, the GST registration has been suspended under Rule 21(a) read with Rule 21A of the Central Goods and Services Tax Rules, 2017, until the issue is clarified.

The incident has sparked discussion on social media among taxpayers. Some users agree with the taxpayer, while some say the reason mentioned in the notice is valid.

Replying to which, a user said, “A registered post is being sent to the PPOB by the GST State Department. If it is undelivered, your GST is liable for suspension.”

However, the taxpayer replied, “What is the proof of non-delivery? It’s a legitimate PPOB.”

Another taxpayer mentioned that their client’s registration was also suspended for the same reason. However, they filed a clarification and visited the officer, after which their explanation was accepted and the GSTIN was reactivated.

Reacting to which, the taxpayer said, What is the need of unnecessary hassle?
