Tax Filing Relief: CBDT Extends ITR and Audit Report Deadlines for AY 2025-26
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) announced on October 29 (Wednesday) to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITRs) and audit reports for the assessment year 2025-26.
However, before this extension, taxpayers whose accounts were to be audited, such as corporations, sole proprietorships and working partners in enterprises, had until friday, October 31, 2025 to file their income tax returns (ITR) for the fiscal year 2024-25 (assessment year 2025-26).
The previous due date was scheduled for Friday, October 31, 2025; however, now it has been scheduled for December 10, 2025 (Wednesday).
CBDT also issued a press release announcing an extension, stating, "The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to extend the due date of furnishing of Return of Income under sub-Section (1) of Section 139 of the Act for the Assessment Year 2025-26."
CBDT also posted the same on its official social media platform x (previously known as Twitter).
