Bharat Coking Coal get Interim Relief against demand worth Rs 17,344.46 crores

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has let the BSE and NSE know it got new demand notices from Jharkhand’s State Authorities, right after the Ministry of Coal’s Revisional Authority stepped in with interim relief. They shared this update under Regulation 30 of SEBI’s Listing Regulations, 2015.

Here’s what is happening: This issue ties back to old demand notices worth Rs 17,344.46 crores covering 47 projects, mines, and collieries. The original demands came up after the Supreme Court’s 2017 judgement in Common Cause vs. the Union of India. BCCL pushed back. In November 2022, the Revisional Authority actually set aside those demands.

But now, Jharkhand’s State Authorities have started sending fresh notices and show cause proceedings, all about the same things. BCCL is not taking it lightly—they’ve filed several Revision Applications with the Revisional Authority under the Mines and Minerals Act of 1957.

On April 29, 2026, the Revisional Authority admitted this application and gave BCCL some breathing room. They order the State Authorities not to take any Forced Action against BCCL over these new notices until the review wraps up.

So for now BCCL has temporary protection, and stakeholders are being found as something unfortunate.
