GST Shockwave! 200 Bundles of Readymade Garments Seized in Massive Railway Station Raid
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) team raid at a railway station, Bhagalpur. Around two hundred bundles of clothes brought from three trains to the railway parcel office were seized. The raid was conducted under GST Joint Commissioner Mini. However, News of the raid spread, which caused panic near the parcel office.
The GST team officials seized the bundles; however, no valid documents were found so they took the bundles to the GST office campus. During the two-and-a-half-hour operation, the Joint Commissioner came to the site and instructed her team to seize the bundles and take further action. The whole operation took two and a half hours on Monday.
Penalty action will be taken after the seized documents are examine again on Tuesday. When asked which merchants owned the seized clothes, Joint Commissioner Mini did not give a clear answer. She said she could comment only after the investigation was over.
Several shops/businesses import readymade garments, saris, and other textiles from Kolkata, Surat, and Delhi, which are often brought in without proper bills, allowing traders to dodge GST.
Goods and Services Tax is evaded by ordering large quantities of undocumented bundles under the cover of ordering bundles of clothes with valid documents.
Businesses evade GST by creating fake invoices for bundles of ordered clothing. These businesses evade GST by falsely reporting their income and falsely claiming input tax credit.
This raid news has created panic among GST evaders.
