The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has released two volumes of its “Background Material on GST”, aimed at helping tax professionals and other stakeholders understand the latest developments in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.

GST rules and procedures have been changing regularly due to amendments in the law, court decisions, technology upgrades and policy changes. The recent GST 2.0 reforms have further changed the tax framework with steps like rationalization of tax rates, simplified compliance procedures, increased use of digital processes and the operationalization of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT).

The GST & Indirect Taxes Committee of ICAI has issued 14th Edition of Background Material on GST to provide updated reference material to the professionals. The new edition has been thoroughly revised to incorporate the changes brought about by the Finance Act, 2026 including the GST 2.0 reforms.

The publication also covers other important legislative and procedural developments under GST. ICAI said the updated material is intended to serve as a practical reference and guide for chartered accountants, tax professionals, businesses and others involved in the implementation and compliance of GST.
