GSTAT Cuttack Bench Now Fully Functional to Clear Pending GST Cases With Three Members
The newly established Cuttack bench of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) has become fully operational with three members.
The members who have taken charge at the Cuttack bench are judicial members. Suchismita Misra, technical member (Centre); Ranjan Kumar Sahoo, technical member (state); and Ananda Satpathy. The tribunal has now become fully functional with these three members and is presently working on resolving the adjudication of GST-related appeals at the regional level.
The key objective of the GSTAT bench is to reinforce the appellate mechanism and make sure that GST-related disputes are resolved promptly. The officials addressed these appointments as a good step towards making the Cuttack bench completely operational as soon as possible. Once it starts working, it will help clear pending GST cases faster, offer expert decisions, and make it easier for businesses by providing a special platform to handle GST appeals.
The non-functionality of the GST appellate tribunal for a long time has resulted in the gathering of a large number of pending cases before the High Courts, primarily resulting in an increase in the number of demands both from taxpayers and the tax administration to set up GSTAT benches across the entire nation. The GST Appellate Tribunal was established the previous year on September 24, 2025, by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
